The Canine Carnival: 05/21/2005 Forest Lake, Minnesota

Each May, the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Center hosts a Canine Carnival. This fun family event celebrates wild and domestic canines. Amid wolves and foxes, various dog organizations provide information and demonstrations on their activities. Students from C & E Dog Training Center demonstrated both obedience and agility. This is a great event for "proofing" your dog. If your dog can focus on you while surrounded by howling wolves and grilling meat, a regular outdoor agility trial will be a cakewalk.

Perfectly aligned, and led by Nigel the Beagle, the class shows the audience a down stay.

This beautiful Afghan hound demonstrates a recall from a stay. Hounds are considered to be difficult to train, compared to some other breeds, so this is a wonderful accomplishment for the dog and handler.

These two German Shepherd dogs also demonstrate a recall from a stay.

Nessa the Eskie, with handler Beth, ensures the course is set up correctly.

Humor the Cocker Spaniel unselfishly picks up the dropped treats, to ensure other dogs are not distracted by them during their runs.

Abby the Sheltie preferred sitting on the chute to going through it.
